JTI Conducts Gender Training for Judicial Officers

At least 20 judicial officers are taking part in a three-day workshop in gender and violence against women and girls.

The training which is being conducted by the Judicial Training Institute, with support from UN Women,under the theme "Capacity Strengthening for Delivery of Gender Responsive Justice Service in the Uganda Judiciary".

The training was opened today, October 3, 2017 by Hon. Justice Dr. Henry Peter Adonyo, the Executive Director JTI.

In his welcome remarks, Hon. Justice Dr. Adonyo, said the training was a result of the two-year MoU between the Institute and UN Women.

He urged the participants to pay keen interest in the training so that when they go back to their stations they can also train others.

The workshop is, among others, being facilitated by the Soroti Resident Judge, Hon.Justice David Batema, covering topics such as Judicial Activism, Gender &Access to Justice and revolutionizing the internal operations of the Judiciary.

The project is intended to address gender-based gaps in the delivery of justice with a focus on judicial officers and other personnel in the Justice, Law and Order Sector Institutions.

The participants are a cross section of judicial officers including Judges, Registrars and Magistrates.
